How to Clean Hairbrush Lint

Lint that appears in your hairbrush is one of life’s tiny mysteries, along with the socks that disappear in the dryer. Actually transferred to your hair from bedding and clothing and deposited in your brush when you groom your hair, hairbrush lint often clings to the individual teeth of a hairbrush and refuses to leave when you clean the hair from the brush. To banish the pesky lint, you must use a different tactic when you clean your hairbrush.

Step 1
Remove any loose hair that has collected in the hairbrush by grasping the sides of the brush and pulling outward, away from the bristles.

Step 2
Wet the hairbrush under hot running water until it is soaked.

Step 3
Add three drops of shampoo to the bristles of the brush.

Step 4
Hold the handle of the brush in your left hand while rubbing the bristles briskly to spread the shampoo to all the bristles.

Step 5
Run a fine-toothed comb through the soapy bristles, using an upward motion to lift the lint from the bottom of each row of bristles. Repeat this step until all the lint is removed.

Step 6
Rinse the brush under hot running water. Place on a towel to air dry.
