Sharing Hope: A Mesothelioma Survivor’s Story
Back in 2011, I wrote a blog post for ModernMom about my journey with mesothelioma cancer.
Around the time that I submitted that post was when my advocacy efforts for mesothelioma really took off.
When I became involved in the mesothelioma community, I realized just how many people are battling this disease, and I was inspired to raise my voice. I decided from the beginning that instead of keeping my story to myself, I was going to use it to spread awareness about this often-misunderstood cancer.
I have used my advocacy efforts to not only spread awareness about mesothelioma, but also to be a guiding force to newly diagnosed patients and their families.
Recently, my husband and I documented our journey and how this disease has impacted our lives. My purpose in doing the video was to inform people and show current and future victims that there is always hope. I plan on only continuing my efforts within the mesothelioma community and playing a part in any way I can.
Although our experience is exclusive to us, it contains personal struggles that so many people can relate to with their own battles. I share my story for a simple reason: I want people to see that no matter what their struggle is, they are never alone in their fight.
Hope was such a big part of my journey and, because of that, my message in all of this is a simple one: with hope, the odds don’t matter.
