If your hair is driving you crazy, fight it with a crazy hairstyle. Donning crazy braids can give your hair a special look while taming wayward hair and frizzes. Be bold, be daring and take out the blahs from your boring hair by defying hairstyling norms. Wear your hair in crazy braids and turn heads wherever you go.
Dragon Tail Braid
A style that works more for men than women, a dragon tail braid is one of the many crazy braids hairstyles that NBA star Allen Iverson wore in and out of basketball court. The so-called “Dragon Tail,” created by his hairstylist Dionne Matthews from Camden, N.J., it features squiggly lines that mimic the shape of a dragon’s tail. To create the look, divide the head into four or six different sections. Create a tight, small braid in each section and shape it into a squiggly or S-like pattern as you go. Having one side mimic the other in a mirror-like effect will create symmetry. It may be necessary to shave some part of the head to create distinct demarcations and make the pattern more visible. Pulling the hair tight and tying small elastic bands will keep them in place. For long locks, bunch up the back bottom tresses together and tie into a ponytail.
Warrior/Goddess Braids
At the Dior fashion show held at the Palace of Versailles in 1999, runway models wore their hair in warrior/goddess braids. Stylist Orlando Pita was responsible for the look. He made sure to depict the strength and aura of warriors and goddesses in a mythological and cosmic fashion. Gilded painted lines running down on the models’ faces complemented the hairstyles well.
To create the look, divide the hair into multiple sections in a horizontal fashion, starting from the top to the back of head down to the lower part of the nape. Pull the each section tightly to the center of your scalp. Start from the top, insert a small wooden dowel, approximately 4 inches high, inside the tresses of hair. Let the dowel stand on top of your hair as you cover it with hair. Winding red elastic bands or ribbons tightly on each section of hair-covered dowel will keep it securely in place. Then, create basic braids on each tail of hair formed. Once you reach the back part of your head, connect all the braids together and create a knotted loop in the end. The appearance of the connected braids will look similar to a Spartan’s helmet.
Cornrows
Creating cornrows is common for Afro hair. It is one way of taming the frizzes and tight curls. People with straight hair can also get cornrows if desired. Ideally, the hair should be damp, but not soaking wet when you are styling cornrows. Applying hair wax can help in styling cornrows. Add moisturizer and keep a water spray bottle on hand in case the hair starts to dry. Creating braids in single line, section by section, looks similar to the way corns grow in the field, hence the name. Tighten each braid as you weave the hair together. Tying small elastic bands at each end will keep each row securely in place.
