BareMinerals Makeup Tips
In 1995, Leslie Blodgett launched bareMinerals, a line of mineral makeup. The Bare Escentuals product hits the airwaves on QVC, where the infomercials showed women how a formulation of finely ground minerals could make their skin look radiant and minimize lines. Before jumping on the mineral makeup wagon, consider a few tips to maximize the effect of bareMinerals.
Application
Applying bareMinerals requires a distinctive technique. Use only a small amount of product, as Bare Escentuals says it is concentrated. Sprinkle bareMinerals into the cap of the product container. Swirl a thick brush into the cap, checking that you tuck the product into the brush’s bristles. Tap the handle of the brush against the cap so that the excess product falls into the cap for use later. Starting on the outer edges of your face and working inward, buff the bareMinerals product into your face. Use tight, circular motions. The product will not have the heavy, thick feeling of traditional liquid or cream foundations, it will have a weightless feeling.
Sensitive Skin
Although bareMinerals contains no preservatives, fragrances, talc, oil or dyes and has few ingredients, it does not carry a hypoallergenic label. Some people with sensitive skin do not respond well to the ingredients, particularly bismuth oxychloride, a mineral that imparts a moonlit glow on your complexion but is a byproduct of processing lead or copper. On the upside, people who want a light amount of sunscreen protection in their cosmetics like that bareMinerals has titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, two natural sunscreens. For people who seek a sun protection factor (SPF) higher than 15, add bareMinerals Mineral Veil, a finishing product with SPF 25.
Make-Under
The lightweight, natural feeling of mineral makeup means you can give yourself a make-under rather than a makeover. This simple process takes about five minutes and results in a radiant look. Clean and pat dry your skin. Apply a lightweight moisturizer with sunscreen. Use bareMinerals concealer for any trouble areas. Add bareMinerals foundation in your hue and finish, original or matte. Finish the look with Mineral Veil. For a brighter look, brush on bareMinerals All-Over Face Color, bareMinerals Blush, bareMinerals for eyes and lip color.
