How to Repair Dry Hair Extensions

Despite the fact that it grows from living material, hair is actually dead once it leaves the follicle. This is why hair requires special care to keep it looking its best. Your scalp also helps with this task by producing oils that keep your hair hydrated. Hair extensions can add length to your style and require just as much care as your real hair. Since they are not living hair attached to your scalp, hair extensions lack the oils that your own hair receives. This can leave them looking dull and dry. Repairing them requires the use of a conditioner at least once a week.

Step 1

Wet the hair extensions with warm water. Apply a dime-sized amount of moisturizing shampoo to the hair extensions.

Step 2

Massage the moisturizing shampoo into the hair extensions. Rinse well, removing as much of the suds as possible.

Step 3

Squeeze the excess water out of the hair extensions using your hands. Lay the extensions flat on a towel and cover them with a second towel, blotting as much of the remaining water as possible.

Step 4

Apply a leave-in conditioner to the hair extensions. A light spritz of leave-in conditioner is all that is necessary.

Step 5

Distribute the leave-in conditioner evenly through the hair extensions using a wide-toothed comb. Lay the hair extensions flat on a towel to air dry.
