Aisha Tyler broke down in tears on the set of her daytime show “The Talk” during an emotional segment where she revealed for the first time that she has struggled with infertility.
The 42-year-old actress opened up about undergoing IVF in the hopes of concieving a child with her husband of 21 years, Jeff Tietjens.
“We went through the process. There are all these shots, they make your body crazy, they make you emotional, they hurt,” she said. “I was getting shots every day. I wasn’t telling you guys – my husband and I were going through this at home together. He hated giving me the shots, he probably cried more than I did.”
But after several costly procedures proved unsucessful, Tyler’s doctor gave her some difficult advice.
“[He] said, ‘Look, based on what we’re seeing here, I just don’t think this is going to happen to you and I think you really need to think about whether you want to spend all this money and go through all this emotional effort and probably still not get pregnant.'”
Tyler and her husband ultimately decided to it wasn’t worth it to continue. However, they haven’t given up on their dream of expanding their family.
“I love the idea of adoption,” she told co-host Sara Gilbert. “But I feel like this is such a fresh wound that I want to let it heal for a while before I think about what we could do.”
