First, Britney Spears confirmed that she will be leaving The X Factor, and now it looks like her relationship with Jason Trawick has also run its course.
The couple mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement, a rep confirmed to PEOPLE.
“As two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends.”
“Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement,” Spears said in the statement. “I’ll always adore him and we will remain great friends.”
Adds Trawick: “As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever.”
The 31-year-old singer began dating Trawick in 2009 and the couple got engaged on his 40th birthday in December 2011.
According to TMZ, they didn’t want to announce the split until Trawick was removed as Spears co-conservator. Along with her father, Jamie Spears, he has the power to make both personal and financial decisions for Britney.
“Lawyers for the conservatorship are in court right now… so it’s possible Jason will be removed today,” the website reported.
