Modern Family Teen Faces Real Family Drama
Another sad family story for a Hollywood child star.
While Ariel Winter may play a bright teen on the hit ABC sitcom Modern Family, recent news reveals that her real-life role as a teenage daughter is filled with far more drama than comedy.
It all started back in October when court papers were filed in which the young, TV star alleged that her mother subjected her to “ongoing physical abuse (slapping, hitting, pushing) and emotional abuse (vile name-calling, personal insults about minor and minor’s weight, attempts to ‘sexualize’ minor, deprivation of food, etc.) for an extended period of time.”
Following the allegations, a judge granted Winter’s older sister, Shanelle Gray, temporary guardianship until a court hearing set for Nov. 20.
But as in every dispute, there are always two sides to the story. Winter’s mother, Chrisoula Workman, denies any claims of abuse. She insists that her daughter manufactured the abuse allegations after Workman put a stop to her daughter’s teenage romance with Disney Channel star, Cameron Palatas.
“I caught my daughter with her boyfriend in bed. She’s 14 – he’s 18. And I threw him out, and I broke them up,” she said. “And ever since I did that, I’ve paid. And, you know, I had to do it.”
According to PEOPLE, the cast and producers of Modern Family, as well as ABC reps, have all declined to comment.
Is Ariel Winter the victim of an abusive, over-bearing mother? Or is Chrisoula Workman telling the truth and only trying to protect her daugter? That is the question the courts will have to decide.
