Surprise – Avril Lavigne is engaged!
The singer/songwriter is apparently planning to tie the knot with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
Lavigne, 27, and Kroeger, 37, have been dating for the past six months but kept it very quiet. Friends say that sparks first flew in February when they co-wrote a song for her upcoming album.
“A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together,” a very eloquent source told PEOPLE.
Following news of the proposal, the pair is poised to become Canada’s new power couple. (Yes, that is a thing and there’s been a real dry spell ever since Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams broke up.)
It will be the first time down the aisle for Kroeger, and the second for Lavigne, who was previously married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley.
Wonder if there will be any duets in this duo’s future?
(Note: I sincerely hope not. Upon further consideration, I actually can’t think of anything worse than a Nickelback/Lavigne hybrid song. Imagine a rusty can opener choking on a pink glitter skull necklace from Hot Topic. That’s what it would sound like. )
