Sweden’s Royal Baby Named Estelle!

Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel welcomed their first child on Thursday – a little girl who will one day be queen.

What’s the baby’s name? Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary. (Silvia comes from her maternal grandmother and Ewa from her paternal grandmother.)

The official name announcement comes from King Carl XVI Gustaf, who also proclaimed that his new granddaughter will be given the title Duchess of Ostergotland. The country celebrated the birth of the royal baby, who is second in line to the Swedish throne, with a 21-gun salute.

Born at 4:26 a.m., the infant weighed in at 7 pounds, 3 oz. Proud father Daniel gushed about the news to reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

“The Crown Princess feels radiant, she is so happy. Everything has been great,” he said.  “As I walked down from the room the little princess rested on her mother’s chest, and seemed to have it very cozy, so it was hard to tear oneself away.”

34-year-old Victoria is first in line to the throne held by her father since 1973.  She married Daniel, a commoner and her former personal trainer in June 2010.

Congratulations to the royal family!
