Tips on Blow Drying Hair
Putting a gun to your head is an overwhelming, humbling experience. But don’t worry, this one is full of hot hair. If you blow dry your hair every day or need a new hairdo, a few tips can transform your blow drying routine from a hair-raising fright to a peaceful practice.
Drying
A blow dryer’s most important job is to remove the moisture from your hair. This gives you a finished look, instead of a just-out-of-the-shower appearance. Although blow drying is a convenience, give yourself some time to let your hair dry a bit on its own. The more you can let it dry naturally, the less damage you will do to the cuticles. Towel and air-dry your hair until your hair is just damp. Focus your blowing on the roots to avoid drying out the older ends. You may want to leave a little moisture on the hair, instead of parching it with the blow dryer.
Volumizing
You can give your hair a little body and volume with a blast of your hair dryer. Add a little volumizing spray to your hair. Lean your head down and flip your hair over to brush against the grain of your scalp. Shoot air into the roots, as you push your hair against its natural pattern. Before your hair is completely dry, flip it back to the style you want and finish the drying, as you run your fingers through your hair. Avoid brushing too harshly to avoid smoothing out the volume.
Shaping
Your blow dryer can be your best tool in shaping your hairstyle. Add a little flip to your hair with your blow dryer. Apply a styling gel or mousse to your hair before you dry. As you dry your hair, roll a round brush under your hair to flip it out or under. Position your blow dryer so it blasts air down each hair shaft and turn the brush as you go. Pull the brush out and continue with other sections of your hair until you have flipped it all.
Setting
Your blow dryer is the perfect finishing tool for your hair style. Apply a hair serum or gel to ensure your cuticles will remain flat and keep your hair from getting frizzy. Blow dry your hair, letting the air move down each hair shaft so it does not ruffle the cuticles. When you finish blow styling your hair, turn on the cool setting and finish drying your hair with cold air, to set your style. Spritz it with hair spray.
