The Best Quick Lost Weight Diets
Losing weight fast is a goal for some moms. Diets and exercise cannot only be frustrating psychologically, but it also cut into valuable time with your children, spouse, other family members and friends. While rapid weight loss can lead to several rather unpleasant drawbacks, such as lost water weight or even the loss of lean tissue, some people can safely lose weight quickly, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, always remember that significant weight problems are usually best resolved with lasting changes in both diet and exercise habits.
Mayo Clinic Diet
The Mayo Clinic Diet is one of the best options for quick weight loss, according to the Jan. 22, 2010, issue of the “U.S. News and World Report.” During the first two weeks of the diet, followers can expect to lose about six to 10 lbs. However, the Mayo Clinic returns to its traditional “slow and steady” weight loss advice in subsequent weeks of the diet; followers can expect to lose about 1 to 2 lbs. in the weeks that follow their introductory period. Keep in mind that the Mayo Clinic only ever released one official diet, published in a book in late 2009. Other diets claiming to be the Mayo Clinic Diet are false, according to Dr. Donald Hensrud, medical editor-in-chief of the book and chair of the division of preventive, occupational and aerospace medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Also, while the clinic recommends slow and steady weight loss, Hensrud noted in the “U.S. News and World Report” interview that it is safe for most people to follow the initial two-week jump-start period beyond the prescribed time frame.
Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate regimen that usually leads to safe and quick weight loss, according to the Women’s Health website. However, those women who want to feel less cranky in the long run may want to find a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet. Those who use the Atkins Diet usually feel better emotionally at first, but eventually their moods return to what they were before going on the low-carb diet, according to Women’s Health. The Atkins Diet led to weight loss of about 30.2 lbs. in one year among a group of participants studied by the U.S. federal government.
South Beach Diet
The South Beach Diet is effective and uses the concept of selecting foods based on their potential impact on your blood sugar, according to the Mayo Clinic. Basically, you use a glycemic index and other detailed instructions to choose your foods and accelerate your weight loss hopefully without compromising a level blood sugar. The theory is that your blood sugar directly impacts your weight loss. This is a low-carb diet, but it usually offers more carbohydrates than some of the competing diets on the market. Like most diets, you can usually lose the most weight in the first two weeks.
