Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms

Naturally, the idea of expecting is exciting to couples awaiting positive pregnancy tests results. But before you get around to taking a test, you may begin to experience early pregnancy signs and symptoms. Early pregnancy signs and symptoms can vary from woman to woman. If you suspect you’re pregnant, schedule an appointment with your doctor for a pregnancy test.

Nap Time

A common early symptom of pregnancy is loss of energy. During your first trimester, you’ll likely experience bouts of fatigue, which will make you want to nap, even after a full night’s rest. Instead of reaching for the caffeine or pushing yourself to stay awake, WebMD suggests listening to your body and taking time to relax.

Morning Sickness

Pregnant women share stories of experiencing morning sickness early in their pregnancies. Symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting, keep pregnant women close to the bathroom. Smells and the tastes of various foods may cause the onset of these symptoms. Web MD suggests that these feelings may pass after the 12-week mark, although some women experience these symptoms throughout the pregnancy.

Swollen Breasts

Breast discomfort might make an appearance during the early months of pregnancy. From swollen and sore breasts to just feeling a little heavier up top, the Mayo Clinic suggest that women may experience changes in their breasts as early as two weeks into their pregnancies.

Vacationing in the Bathroom

If you find yourself with a full bladder you can’t seem to empty, it may be an early indication of pregnancy. Frequent urination is caused by the uterus’s need to grow, which, in turn, pushes on the bladder and sends you running to bathroom.

Intense Cravings

As your hormones begin to change, you’ll start to experience food cravings and may notice that the smell or appearance of foods you once loved, repulse you just a little. If you are craving unhealthy foods and snacks, find comparable substitutes that are healthier for you and the baby. Foods like fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains provide pregnant moms with the nutrients they need for a healthy pregnancy.

Disappearing Cycle

The first sign most women notice when they are pregnant is a late menstrual cycle. If your period is late, consider taking a trip to the drugstore to pick up a home pregnancy test. Many tests are designed to provide early pregnancy results. If your test results are negative, but you are experiencing other early pregnancy symptoms, schedule an appointment with your doctor. Check with your doctor if you are spotting or experiencing an abnormal period.
