Makeup, Nails & Hair Tips
Makeup, hair and nail care are an important part of a many woman’s daily life. However, if you have a busy schedule you most likely don’t have a lot of time to devote to a beauty routine. There are many tips that make caring for hair and nails, and applying cosmetics easier and more effective.
Foundation
Matching and blending are the most important priorities when it comes to foundation. Matching foundation to your natural skin tone is always the smartest and most natural-looking approach. Regardless of what type of foundation you select, be sure to blend the foundation thoroughly into the skin, particularly around the edges. Telltale lines that broadcast where the foundation leaves off look unnatural.
Eyeliner
Skillfully applied eyeliner can make the eyes look bigger and bolder. Use darker eyeliner on the top lid and a lighter, softer shade on the bottom lid for a more natural look. For a smokey eye, smudge the eyeliner with a cotton swab or use your fingertip.
Lipstick
Selecting the right shade of lipstick is important as you never want the lips and eyes to compete for attention. If a bold eye is desired, use a more subtle shade on the lips. If you would rather make the lips stand out, use a deeper and more prominent shade of red or burgundy, taking a much more subtle approach with the eyes. The size of the mouth is a factor as well. Generally speaking, the smaller the lips, the brighter the lip color can be.
Blush
Blush should be in the same color family as lipstick. The shades do not need to match exactly, but they should be related. For example, you should not mix hot pink lipstick with a warm coral blush.
Hair Care Products
Check the ingredients on hair care products. If the product contains alcohol it can dry the hair. Be sure to apply hair care products like mousse or styling gel to the hair and not to the scalp. Applying products to the scalp can clog the pores. Use the products meant for your hair type: regular, oily or dry. This will keep your hair looking clean and at its best for a longer period of time between washings. Use conditioner for dry or damaged hair to keep the ends from splitting.
Hair Health
Staying hydrated is very important for maintaining healthy hair. Be sure to drink at least six glasses of water per day. This is a good idea for overall health and your hair will certainly reap the benefits. Eating a diet rich in minerals, vitamins and oils also promotes hair health.
Nail Polish
Two coats of nail polish is recommended each time you color your nails. To ensure even coverage, apply the nail polish in three strokes. The first two strokes should cover the outer sides of the nail and the last stroke should cover the middle area. Add a clear coat on top of dry nail polish to prolong the manicure. The shelf life of most nail polishes is about one year. To keep nail polish fresher longer, store it in the refrigerator.
