How to Use Homemade Skin Treatments

Many homemade beauty recipes are quick and easy to prepare. You can make them yourself in your own kitchen. The best part is that they cost less than commercial skin care products. In addition to saving money, there are numerous benefits to using natural ingredients, many of which you probably already have in your pantry. But be sure not to use any ingredients that you might be allergic to, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Step 1

Make your skin glow by wetting granulated sugar with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Mix the two together in the palm of your hand and then rub over your face. The sugar should still be grainy and not dissolved.

Step 2

Hydrate your skin with an easy-to-do facial. Boil water and pour into the bathroom sink. Add fresh lemon or orange peel. Drape a towel over your head and lean over the sink until the steam evaporates. Apply a clean, cool towel to skin that feels hydrated and cleansed.

Step 3

Moisturize and rejuvenate your skin by mixing one tablespoon each of olive oil and honey with two teaspoons of vodka. Use a cotton swab to apply to your face and neck.

Step 4

Remove excess oil from your skin by blending one-half lemon and one-half orange in a blender with six ounces of rubbing alcohol. It will take about a minute for the citrus fruits to puree. Strain through a small strainer into a jar. Keep this homemade astringent refrigerated for up to six months.

Step 5

Exfoliate your skin by mixing three-quarters cup of baking soda and one-quarter cup of water. Gently rub the paste on your face. Wait for three minutes before rinsing off. You will be amazed at how smooth and refreshed your skin feels.

Step 6

Prevent dry skin by preparing a moisturizing bath for your entire body. Add one-half cup of powdered skim milk along with a few drops of scented essential oil to your bath water while running.

Step 7

Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by applying lemon juice to the skin around and below the eyes. Use a cotton ball to apply lemon juice every morning and night and watch the crows-feet diminish in appearance. Another way to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and mouth is by spreading mashed banana over your face. Use one-quarter banana mashed until creamy. Leave on for about 15 minutes before rinsing off with tepid water and then gently patting dry.

Step 8

Get fuller, softer, more youthful looking lips by blending one part cinnamon oil and three parts vitamin E oil in a small, plastic lotion bottle. Warm the bottle for 10 seconds in the microwave. Shake well before using. Rub a few drops of the mixture onto your lips with your fingertip. Reapply every two hours.

Step 9

Dry pimples by applying a dab of toothpaste on the area using a cotton swab. Put on before you go to bed and then let on the skin overnight. Wash off in the morning. Do not use gel toothpaste or toothpaste with additives.
