How to Apply Eyeliner
Skillfully lined eyes can make a big difference in the overall effectiveness of any makeup application. Eyes will look larger and more awake when eyeliner is used. Applied correctly, eyeliner can define the eyes while working to enhance any other eye makeup products that are utilized.
Applying Eyeliner
Step 1
Choose a color that will flatter the natural color of your eyes while complementing the shade of eye shadow you are planning to wear. Dark eyes can wear deep browns or even blacks. Blue eyes are complemented by charcoal gray shades. And green eyes look great with deep brown shades.
Step 2
Sharpen the eyeliner pencil with a small pencil sharpener. A sharp point is important and will yield a fine, smooth line.
Step 3
Close the eyes halfway and draw a light line of eyeliner across the top lid along the lash line.
Step 4
Smudge the line lightly with a fingertip or cotton swab if a subtle effect is desired. Repeat this process on the other eyelid.
Step 5
Draw a line along the lower lash line starting at the far side of the eye. The line should grow progressively thinner until it ends at the inner corner of the lower eye. Repeat this process on the other eyelid.
Warnings
- Eyeliner, as with all eye makeup products, should be replaced every couple of months because older makeup can harbor bacteria and result in eye infections.
