Dress Cool For Back To School
I feel like summer just started yet suddenly those alarm clocks are going off early, lunches need to be packed and homework will be a daily chore. YIKES………it’s BACK TO SCHOOL and with that comes Back to School Clothing. While you may have already hit the stores, there is still time for shopping to get your kids looking cool and hip.
Remember how excited you got as a kid going back to school shopping? Kids want to look cool, be hip and trendy and stay fashion forward. From trying to find that perfect outfit for the first day of school to finding those special pieces for fall, it can be very challenging with not only today’s styles but with our tight budgets in today’s economy. It can be difficult to dress our “tweens” in outfits that are appropriate (i.e., not trampy) yet cool. Whether it’s your 7 year old or 15 year old, the styles out there seem to get more and more risqué.
Fortunately there are many stores out there to shop at to get that stylish yet sweet look for all ages. I am talking about our girls now. Girls have a true voice and opinion in their clothing selections. Stores like Limited Too, Abercrombie & Fitch, Express, Hollister, Gap, Target, Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Marshalls (just to name a few) all have clothing that scream style without being over-the –top. Many tops this season are encrusted with rhinestones or sparkling with glitter and all look great with a denim skirt, jeans or shorts. You will see a lot of bright colors this season and the preppy look is coming back. Outer wear is also big so a cute blazer or jacket can be thrown on over any t-shirt, blouse or tank top to give you that trendy look. Have your child go through some magazines or look online to come up with those classic pieces that can add to their existing wardrobe. New school year and new styles does not mean a whole new wardrobe. I have my daughter pick a few trendy pieces to go with all the staples in her closet. Decide your budget and amount of purchases before you leave the house to ensure a fun-filled shopping day with your girls. Trust me, once you are in the stores everything looks amazing and if you shop with a plan you will help your child not feel like they need to buy everything. Remember spring clothes will be out before you know it so go for those classic pieces.
Now on to the boys. Boys love casual looks and luckily for this season, it’s all about being casual. Choose items that have a vintage look and feel to them. Layering is also big this season so remember to layer with a plaid, stripped or patterned button down. Many boys will layer this with a graphic t-shirt. There are so many graphic images out there so your child can choose the look that best suits him.
A lot of us moms do have that skater boy who will only wear skate shirts. Thanks to the casual look this fall any of our local skate shops or department stores carry these shirts year round. Any age boy can wear all brands like Element, Hurley, DC, RVCA, Vans, Quicksilver or Billabong and their look will be achieved. They are so easy to wear and can all be thrown on with a flannel or button down shirt paired with jeans. Your boys will be looking cool, hip and casual and will be staying in style.
There are so many ways for your kids to express their unique personalities while staying with the latest style so have fun getting them ready for the first day of school and don’t forget to set those alarm clocks!!

“Every time I shop at Marshalls I am always amazed by the great designer looks and trends I find at such low prices. It’s not about big budgets or living in a fashion capitol, you can still get the top trends that you see your favorite celebrities wearing for a lot less at Marshalls”.
