Garmin Nuvi Recalls 1.25 Million GPS Devices

One of the top GPS brands, Garmin, has recalled approx. 1.25 Nuvi personal navigation devices. The company found overheating problems in some units. The batteries inside, which come from a third-party supplier, can cause the unit to overheat — producing a fire hazard.

Defective units are those with model numbers 200W, 250W, 260W, 7xx and 7xxT (where xx is a two-digit number).

Garmin says it has identified the issue in less than 10 cases, none of which caused “significant property damage” or injuries.

To find out if your Garmin Nuvi GPS has been affected by the recall, you can check the company's website and plug in your unit's serial number.
