  • Confessions of a Multi-tasker
As busy moms who work outside of the house three days a week, chase our children around the rest of the time, and struggle to fit in attention to our marriages and friendships in between, we are students of the ancient art of multi-tasking.
  • On the Money Trail: Five Summer Vacation Savings Tips
With the thermometer heading upward, vacation time is just around the corner. There's no putting it off any longer. Let's pick that spot and make those arrangements. Time's a'wasting! But this year, before setting dates and confirming hotel reservations, give some thought to what you'll get for what you pay. Unless it's a repeat of your annual trek to Mosquitoland Bed 'n Board on the Susquehanna, or the obligatory two weeks with the in-laws in Tulip, Arkansas, you have choices to make. So, make them in a way that your credit card is not bent out of shape, with the dent still visible next Christmas. With that said, let me give you a few tips that will help keep your personal financial ledger in the black.
  • Summer Fashions for Busy Moms: Back to Basics
Maintaining a balance between fashion and function can be a challenge for moms anytime of the year, but the summer months - ripe with sweat and rising humidity - are the worst, especially when you have a bun in the oven, are going from the boardroom to the beach, or just want to avoid embarrassment when bumping into an acquaintance at the bank. Helping mothers of all varieties strike a balance with quick, comfortable fashions, we have put together our recommendations for some of the best basics around.
  • Three Reasons Why Education Shouldn’t Stop With a Diploma
Remember the day you graduated from High School or College? Maybe you have even achieved an advanced degree. Regardless of the level of education, when it's over, the feelings are the same. Exhilaration! Relief! Freedom! No more books, no more tests, studying, or grades. No more education, right? Wrong!
  • On the Money Trail: For the Customers’ Convenience
A few days ago I received a statement showing interest paid on a small passbook savings account I maintain at a local Bank of America branch. On a balance of $3,183.32, they paid me 66 cents for the month, an amount quite accurate at its annual percentage rate (APR) of ¼ percent. And don't think that I've singled out this particular institution for criticism. It's not much different at any of the others. This is about what you get on a savings account, essentially a loan of money to a bank. However, when the bank is loaning the money-for the customers' convenience, of course-the shoe is on the other foot. I just checked my BankAmericard credit card terms: Cash advances are quoted at an APR of 19.99 percent. If you recognize that rate to be higher than ¼ percent, then you get the point, which is that the major institutions we do business with have tilted the playing field grossly in their favor.
  • How To Say “No” Without Guilt
Most women fear if they are not accommodating to others, then people may think less of them. They agree to activities they have no interest in doing, simply to ensure everyone thinks they are a good person. Oprah Winfrey has mentioned this phenomenon as the "Disease to Please." Women most often suffer from this problem. They will fill their lives with an overwhelming amount of responsibility. Unfortunately, in the end, it is with the best intentions women burn out and become very frustrated.
