A Balancing Act: Darcy Miller

By Samantha Ettus

Among the women I admire most is Darcy Miller. As the Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings, the author of My Wedding Scrapbook, as well as the happily married wife of Andrew Nussbaum and mother of daughters Daisy, age 3 and Ella, 9 months, Darcy manages a busy family life with a wildly successful career. I sat down with her to get the inside scoop on how she really juggles it all.

Samantha: How do you balance being editor of a top magazine with raising your two young kids?

Darcy: Good luck! (smile) No, I really try to be as efficient as possible with my time, to prioritize, and not stress out about being in two places at once.

S: Any time saving tricks?

D: Yes. I do errands like buying birthday presents online so that I can spend more time in the playground than running around taking care of things. I just started using FreshDirect instead of going to the supermarket on the weekend. I really see no point in spending my non-work time buying diapers and paper towels when I could buy them online and spend more time with my kids.

S: Do you have help?

D: We have a nanny. Having someone loving, reliable and trustworthy taking care of my kids makes me worry less.
