A Balancing Act: Alexandra Glazier

By Samantha Ettus

Alexandra and her daughter Morgan on her 2nd birthday

Alexandra Glazier is General Counsel of the New England Organ Bank, the oldest independent organ procurement organization (OPO) in the country, and Adjunct Professor, Boston University School of Law, and a mother of two young girls.

Alexandra and her pediatrician husband are both heavily involved in raising their daughters and she cites this team approach as a large contributor to the success of their balancing act.

Samantha: How is your work week organized?

Alexandra: Precariously!

I work in the office Monday through Thursday and teach a law school class on Thursday nights.

I am on-call for legal emergencies 24/7 and do get called frequently on Fridays and over the weekend.

I am officially 90%.

My husband, who is a pediatrician, also works 4 days in an office and in the hospital seeing patients and is on-call various nights and weekends.

Samantha: What is your childcare situation?

Alexandra: I am home every Friday and my husband is home every Thursday.

We have a nanny who is with the girls the other three.

We are also lucky to have help from both of our moms who each take one of the girls for an afternoon each week.

Samantha: So your husband is involved in caring for the kids?

Alexandra: Yes.

He is home with them one day a week.

My husband and I really like the fact that we share equally in the childcare.

It adds a measure of equity to our relationship that has really been awesome not to mention the fact that he has a very strong bond with the girls.
