Amanda Peet Says Parents Who Don’t Vaccinate are “Parasites”
Actress and new mom Amanda Peet graces the cover of Cookie magazine's August issue and speaks out about the importance of child vaccinations. Here's a sneak peek at some of the controversial interview:
On unvaccinated children… “Frankly, I feel that parents who do not vaccinate their children are parasites,” she says. “I have a lazy, fluffy, actor-y side that’s instinctive. And I have a side that’s practical and into statistical evidence. I’m not a casual person.”
On the effects her work has on her daughter… “I still feel desperately sad when I don’t win a role. When you’re able to identify your passions, then your child will be able to identify hers. It’s a great template.”
On the surprises of motherhood… “One surprise of motherhood for me was how little control I have. I thought it would be an extended, blissful romance with me at the helm, cuddling this little creature to life.” She adds, “It’s been bittersweet and humbling to let her lead, and to try not to be perfect myself.”

Wow!! What a terrible comment to make regarding vaccinations. I feel vaccinations are a decision of the family. I would never stoop so low and degrade a parent based on their beliefs. I wonder where she gets her statistical information from. Sounds like she needs to do more homework, and not just taking the doctor’s word. I could go on but I won’t. Just really offended by her comment.
The number of vaccines recommended these days has skyrocketed from 5-6 years ago to 14 today. Most of the diseases will not kill or cripple children. Others are bad diseases, like polio or meningitis, but did you ever read up on them? The IPV has causes polio. did you know polio is spread via the fecal-oral route? And that 95% of people who get polio are asymptomatic? How about we wash our food and stop having feces go into our mouths rather than risk the immune system of every child. I had no vaccines for 20+ years and I travel, no issues. Im also never/rarely sick. My son is no vaccinated and when he gets sick, he gets over it much faster than others. Vaccines are lagely ineffective, the ones that protect against the more serious ones like meningitis have “holes,” they are no foolproof nor claim to be. Ask any doctor who is vaccinated to inject themselves with a live virus or a live pathogen in the blood. They wont do it. They simply will not do it and its never been done. Its simple, they have risks, and VAERS has reports of deaths from them, and unles you can promise me with 100% certainty that it will not kill or damage my kids, I will never go and do it. And if someone tries to force me I will use deadly force to resist.
Vaccines work; they are responsible for nearly eradicating polio. Every one else that has been vaccinated are the reason why the unvaccinated can be relatively disease-free. If a larger portion of the population declined to be vaccinated, diseases caused by viruses and bacteria like polio, meningitis, rotavirus, pertussus and diptheria would be a much bigger public health concern. People are allowed to make their choices, and I don’t agree with the parasites comment. However, there is significant evidence that vaccines are responsible for keeping epidemics at bay children safe.
A year and a half ago my son had whooping cough (pertussis). Not because he’s not vaccinated, but because many people from the communities surrounding us do not vaccinate.
The doctor explained that the vaccine offers some protection, but it’s not complete. The only way to not get these diseases is if everyone vaccinates against them. What the vaccine did do in our case was to protect him against a much worse case. I don’t even want to imagine what that would have been like!
All three of my children have had all of the recommended shots, and will continue to get the flu vaccine every year, as I have several chronic health conditions. My oldest has had the HPV shots as well, and my younger daughter is next.
I believe I must do everything in my power to keep my kids healthy, and to not vaccinate puts them, and others in the community, at risk.

Frankly, I’m offended by Amanda’s comment about parents who don’t vaccinate.
I also consider myself “practical and into statistical evidence” and am not at all casual when it comes to the health and safety of my children. My boys are not vaccinated.
I read and studied up on vaccines, stats and consulted many in coming to this decision for my family. Insinuating that parents who don’t vaccinate aren’t educating themselves and are “parasites” makes Amanda sound foolish in my opinion.
