Daily Baby: Heidi Divulges Seal’s Sweet Proposal, Gwyneth Heading for the Small Screen + more

By Natasha Burton

HeidiHeidi Klum reveals to People magazine how her hunky hubby, Seal, proposed marriage. Heidi said that while on vacation in Canada, Seal “had an igloo built there, and they’d brought up everything: a bed with sheets inside the igloo, rose petals everywhere, candles. Very, very romantic!”

People.com reports that Gwyneth Paltrow and long-time pal, star chef Mario Batali, recently completed filming a documentary series, “Spain . . . On the Road Again,” in which they “travel through Iberia (in a convertible – everyone shares the driving), eating, cooking and taking in the sights, along with food writer Mark Bittman and Spanish star Claudia Bassols.” The show is Gwyneth’s television debut and it is scheduled to air in the fall on PBS. Gwyneth says she decided to join Batali because, “it sounded like fun.” Check out http://www.spainontheroadagain.com for more info.

Nicole Kidman Gets Celebumom Tips from BFF Naomi Watts

By Natasha Burton

Nicole and NaomiKatie Holmes has Victoria Beckham, J. Lo, and Leah Remini, and Nicole Kidman has Naomi Watts as her best Hollywood mama pal. And as designated best friend, Naomi, who had her son Alexander last July, has been on hand to help Nicole during her pregnancy.

“Whenever you’re pregnant, you always call on your pregnant friends and compare notes,” Naomi told People magazine. “It’s what happens in friendship.” Though Naomi notes that even without her, Nicole would be just fine. When asked if she thought her fellow Aussie will be a good mother, Naomi exclaimed, “Of course!”, adding that, “She’s already a great mum.”

Naomi also gushed about her own son to People. “He’s turning pages in the book,” she said proudly. “He’s crawling and standing up. He can wave. I read Goodnight Moon to him every night.”

Us Weekly Asks: Which Celebrity Mom Would You Like as Your Mother?

By Natasha Burton

Most of these celebumoms are rather young to be our mothers, but I thought this poll was rather cute. Us Weekly put this one up last week and Reese Witherspoon was the top choice, with 49 percent of the vote. Following Reese was Jen Garner, who got almost 26 percent. Angelina Jolie got nearly 20 percent of the votes, and Katie Holmes trailed at 4.7 percent.

While these celebumoms are all dynamic women, I thought US left out some key women in their poll—Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, just to name a couple.

What do Modern Moms think? Which celeb mom would you want to be your mother?

Daily Baby: Reese+Jake Update, Cindy Gets Breakfast in Bed, Liv Tyler Divorcing

By Natasha Burton

Still going strong! Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal recently had a date night at Zaytinya, a restaurant in Washington D.C. The couple shared a salad, followed by the grilled lamb on a skewer and grilled baby octopus. Jake also had some snails sauteed in garlic, the Washington Post reports, but Reese declined a taste.

Cindy Crawford, 42, told Reuters her Mother’s Day plans. According to her predictions, her hubby Rande Gerber, and kids Presley, 8, and Kaia, 6, would spend the day as a family. She said: “I’ll get breakfast in bed. My mother-in-law is visiting so we will do something fun and have a family day…We live right on the beach.”

Batman fans have cleaned out New York toy stores’ entire supply of Heath Ledger‘s Joker action figure, within minutes of them going on sale, World Entertainment News Network reports.  Devotees of the comic book series lined up early to clear shelves of the $9.99 toy, which shows Heath in his final completed role before his premature death in January from an accidental drug overdose. An employee of Times Square’s Toys R Us store says, “There are none left in the warehouse. You will be waiting a while if you want one.”

Sad news, celebumom Liv Tyler and her hubby, Brit rocker Royston Langdon, are splitting up. The couple has a son, Milo, 4, and the news broke on Friday, just before Mother’s Day weekend.

SJP Talks Motherhood with Parade

By Natasha Burton

SJPSarah Jessica Parker, the Sex and the City star, and mom of James, 5, chatted with Parade magazine about being a mom. I think the piece really revealed how Sarah Jessica and her hubby Matthew Broderick differ from other celebuparents. Not only does the couple live in New York (which puts them less often in the spotlight than Los Angeles actor parents) but their no-frills parenting is largely based on SJP’s childhood—she was one of eight kids, and grew up impoverished. Here are some of the highlights from the interview (including some SATC movie talk!):

On her very un-Hollywood parenting: “[My son] only wears hand-me-downs because I’ve got all these older nephews. That’s the God’s honest truth. Plus, my mother saved all my brothers’ clothes. I am not kidding. I don’t think I’ve ever bought him any clothes. Maybe a new winter’s coat…I do buy him shoes, because everybody’s feet are different.”

On how her childhood affected her as a mom: “I think that if I had been raised a child of privilege, I wouldn’t be the working person I am today. I think it’s incumbent on my and me to really stress and to show James Wilkie by example what it means to owe your community something and that he is not entitled to the benefits of our hard work…That doesn’t mean that I’m withholding or keeping from him the joys of childhood — I’m not Joan Crawford. But I also don’t want him to think the world he lives in is the real world. It’s not.”

On being a hands-on mom: “I put him to bed every night. I get him dressed. I’m the one who gives him his toothbrush. I take him to school every morning. [James is] very small, but his personality is 6-foot 4.”

On the SATC movie: “Carrie and Charlotte and Miranda and Samantha aren’t young anymore. Their lives are much less frivolous. They can’t cope with their problems by putting on their sweats and staying up all night and ordering in food and gossiping about the men in their lives…There is less self-absorption but perhaps a little more self-awareness.”
