Brooke Shields’ Glowing Skin Secret—Sunscreen!

By Natasha Burton
BrookeIf anyone has seen the “stars without their make-up” section in People’s Most Beautiful issue, you will likely be as mesmerized as me at Brooke Shield’s gorgeous photo, especially her skin. Brooke, 43, shared some of her beauty secrets for her flawless face, namely how she relies on facials at Balance Spa on Montana Avenue once every two months, where she gets an Epicuren Enzyme facial with an enzyme peel. “I just started getting more conscientious of getting facials,” she says. “It’s about that and sunscreen.

While we might not be able to shell out the money (or time!) for regular facials, Brooke’s sunscreen tip is one was can all add to our beauty rituals, and to our kid’s routines as well. The New York Times reported in 2007 that while some of us worry about a possible deficiency of vitamin D, especially in little ones who are kept out of the sun, “it takes only a few minutes of exposure to ultraviolet light two or three times a week during the summer months to make enough vitamin D to last all year.” The American Academy of Pediatrics “suggests that a safer alternative is to take 200 units of vitamin D a day, starting at the age of 2 months, through infant formula, fortified cows’ milk or soy milk, or a vitamin,” according to the article.

Short of remaining indoors there are three main approaches to sun protection, for us and for our kids:

1. Wearing clothes that block much of the sun’s radiation.

2. Applying a complete sunscreen throughout the day every day.

3. Staying out of the midday sun and in the shade as much as possible.

Tom Cruise Revamps Image on Oprah

By Natasha Burton
Tom + OprahDid anyone check out Tom Cruise’s two-episode special on Oprah last Friday and Monday? I saw a couple clips, namely Tom explaining the whole couch-jumping incident that occurred the last time he sat on Oprah’s couch. I found the celebudad to be down-to-earth and charming, especially when he addressed one of the reasons many fans have been turned-off by him—his comments about Brooke Shields’ post-partum depression during a TV interview in 2006.

Tom confessed to Oprah that he was "wrong" for attacking pal Brooke Shields and other new mothers who turn to medication to manage postpartum depression. During Friday's segment, the  dad of three said, "[My comments] came out wrong, it's just not true. I was raised by four women who have children and babies. I'm not trying or want to tell anyone how to live their life or what they should believe or shouldn't believe." Tom continued to say he felt "pressed" by the media during that period of time, and regrets saying (and doing) a lot of things on TV. He added, "I felt like I could've handled it better.” As for the couch jumping incident, Tom said that if he knew what an uproar it would cause, he would have thought twice before climbing up on the yellow sofa.

What do you think of Tom Cruise now? Has he lost his charm or risen above the recent gossip about his life and relationship with Katie Holmes?

Checking in with Catherine Zeta Jones

By Natasha Burton
czjI haven’t seen celebumom Catherine Zeta-Jones out and about, or even on the gossip sites in a while. Turns out the actress is busy filming The Rebound, a new flick in which she plays a divorced woman who tries to keep up with her new, much younger man. (Hmm...maybe she can ask hubby Michael Douglas for tips on keeping up with a more youthful partner.)

Page Six reported this week that their spies spotted Catherine in the cardio room of Club H Fitness on East 34th Street in New York, which was shut down the other day while she shot her new movie--for 15 hours straight. "She was so beat, in between scenes she'd lie down on the massage table in the middle of the gym," said one of the paper’s spywitnesses. "But they'd tell her she had to be back on set right away."

Daily Baby: Gwyneth Scores Big at the Box Office, Jamie Lynn’s Shower, Uma’s New ‘Do

By Natasha Burton
GwynethHopefully Gwyneth Paltrow did some celebrating over the weekend: her latest flick, Iron Man, pulled in over $100 million at the box office since opening on Friday. What a way to get back to work!

People magazine reports that mom-to-be Jamie Lynn Spears celebrated with a baby shower on Saturday. Big sis Britney was on hand, which marked her first visit to her hometown of Kentwood, LA in over a year. "Jamie Lynn opened every gift," says a People source, adding that mom Lynne and fiancé Casey Aldridge's mother lent a hand. "We all sat in a circle and [Jamie Lynn] opened gifts and thanked every person. It was just a good old fashioned baby shower."

Page Six reports that Uma Thurman was spotted leaving the Pierre Michel Salon in New York sporting a new brunette hairdo after her court appearances in connection with an alleged stalker last week. "She changed her hair color altogether; no one really recognized her," said their spy. "She looked good." There’s nothing like a trip to the salon to unwind after a stressful week…
