This Month, Join Organic-Loving Celeb Moms and Dads and Try Vegan

By Natasha Burton

Even though November's trademark is Thanksgiving, the turkey dinner holiday, it is also National Vegan Month. The vegan discipline mandates zero consumption of any animal products - so meat, cheese, eggs, milk are all out.

It's not the easiest lifestyle (forget about ice cream. goodbye In & Out), so in honor of National Vegan Month, Mommywood wants to give a shout-out to all the celeb moms who are vegans, including Carrie-Anne Moss, mother of two boys, Kate Moss, mother of Lila, 5, Chynna Phillips, mother of Jamison, 7, Vance, 6, and Brooke, 2, and Jennifer Connelly, mother of Kai, 10, and Stellan, 4. Even dads Tobey Maguire, Damon Wayans, and Noah Wyle do the vegan thing. Bryce Dallas Howard, new mom of a baby boy, used to be vegan but is now vegetarian. Either way, it still takes discipline!

Dietitian Page Love says that kids can go vegan too, as long as they are still getting the protein they need to keep them healthy. She suggests, "soy cheese, soy milk, tofu products. There are now wheat based meat products...these are just excellent protein sources that are available." Dr. Reed Mangels, Ph.D. says moms can even start their children out as vegans from birth. He suggests breast-feeding for at least a year before slowly introducing vegan-approved foods into a baby's diet.

If you want to celebrate the vegan way this month, visit your local Whole Foods to pick up vegan treats (try the bakery section for some yummy vegan cookies) or find a tasty natural eatery in your area.

My favorite place to nosh au natural is out here in L.A.-- M Café de Chaya on Melrose. It's a macrobiotic café and a celeb fave too -- mom Jodie Foster was there just recently. To see some samplings of their vegan and other natural options, check out this news segment with M Café manager Melissa Melcombe.

She'll give you a tour of the place and show you how they create their tasty, but animal-free, concoctions.

Sexy Dad Alert! (Warning: Eye Candy Ahead)

By Natasha Burton

Because we at Mommywood focus so much on moms and babies, (and because it's Wednesday and we could all use a little pick-me-up to get us over the hump!) I want to give a little love to the celeb dads out there by officially naming my top three picks for sexiest celeb dad.

Number one is David Beckham, hubby of Victoria and dad of three boys, who was named the new global face for Emporio Armani Underwear early this week. Ooh la la! I can see the billboards now.

The skivvies line will be available in the U.S. for the first time starting in February in case you wanna pick up some duds for your man as well.

Number two on my list is Brad Pitt, also making news this week. Brad pulled a smooth move when he shielded Angelina's bum on the red carpet -- her skin-tight leather pants split at a "Beowulf" screening in London. Talk about chivalrous. The fashion emergency took the spotlight off Brad's sleek look - sharp suit, hat, and some stubble. Mmm, mmm.

For my third choice, I'm going to have to go with Heidi Klum's hubby, Seal. The model and singer revealed a video of their under-the-sheets photo shoot for People magazine, which can be seen here.

Who do you think is the sexiest celeb dad? What makes him sexy? Let us know in our Mommywood message boards...

Halle Already Knows a Few Mommy Tricks

By Alison Singh Gee

I don't know about you but the first time I tried to clean my daughter's Bugaboo I nearly had a fit. Who knew that dried pureed peas and spilled milk could wreak such havoc on my favorite ?? and priciest! -- shower gift?

Well, it sounds like modern mom-to-be Halle Berry already knows about the problem many parents face ?? the filthy high-end stroller. She's scooped up Booyah Baby, a stroller liner that protects your precious Peg Perego or Maclaren ?? and does the job stylishly.

The liners come in different patterns and colors and, if you want to go fully coordinated, you can also pick up matching hooded towels, blankets, bibs, burp cloths, diaper and wipe cases. When your stroller liner gets caked with baby stuff ?? and we all know it will! -- you just pop it into the washing machine.

Is it any wonder that Gwen Stefani's Kingston, Jennifer Garner's Violet, and Salma Hayek's Valentina, are also Booyah Baby fans?

Available online for $82 at www.booyahbabyonline.com.

Glamour Magazine Honors Moms in their 2007 ‘Women of Year’ Issue

By Natasha Burton

Jennifer Garner in Glamour Magazine
Actress Jennifer Garner, presidential-trail campaigner and cancer survivor Elizabeth Edwards, and ??Grey's Anatomy? creator Shonda Rimes are just three of the twelve amazing women selected for Glamour magazine's highest honor this year.

What do these women have in common, besides all being household names for their various contributions? They are all moms! Jen, who says in the magazine she is ??a bit of a goody-goody,? is a role model for celeb (and all) moms trying to balance motherhood with their careers. She often talks candidly about how she juggles her on and off screen roles and tells Glamour that spending time away from daughter Violet, who is turning two in December, ??is hard for me.? However, Jen was chosen as woman of the year not just for her candor about the balance all moms struggle with, but for helping children affected by Hurricane Katrina. Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children's Defense Fund told Glamour, ??[Jen] did something for [New Orleans'] mothers and children, she didn't just come and see.?

Elizabeth Edwards, who recently discovered her breast cancer had returned, is not only the wife of Democratic presidential contender John Edwards, but mom to Cate, 25, Emma Claire, nine, and Jack, seven.

Her 2006 memoir, ??Saving Graces,? touched the nation, and Elizabeth continues to inspire us, especially when she refused to let her husband end his presidential campaign when they found out her cancer was back last March. Her reason for this is simple: ??When bad things happen, you don't let them get you down,? she tells Glamour. Her optimism and dedication to her family is yet another inspiration, and Glamour cites her strength and grace as just two of the components Elizabeth embodies that made her worthy of their honor.

Dubbed a ??McGenius? by Glamour, Shonda Rimes is the first African-American woman to create a produce a top-rated TV series. Actress Chandra Wilson, who plays Dr. Bailey on Grey's says that when Shonda, ??walks into a room?I just see possibility.? Not only has Grey's changed our vocabulary??McDreamy, McSteamy, va-jay-jay, and ??seriously?!? are just some examples??but Shonda herself is changing the face of television, literally, with her commitment to fostering racial diversity on the small screen. ??I hire the best actors,? she told Glamour. ??To reach true equality, people need to stop using race and gender as a means of measuring anything.? Shonda has a daughter named Harper, who she adopted in 2003.

Other honorees this year include Marianne Pearl, Donna Karen, Victoria Hale, Toni Morrison, Abigail Breslin, and the four female Ivy League university presidents.

For more on all these fabulous women, pick up Glamour's December issue (with Jen Garner gracing the cover), on newsstands now.
