Get (Wii) Fit

Wii The much-hyped Wii Fit launched today--and it's no surprise that the "game" is already back-ordered and virtually sold-out everywhere. Nintendo's Wii system changed the landscape of gaming consoles by getting users off the couch and physically interacting with games...we had already considered their boxing game (a part of the Wii Sports package) a workout so it's no surprise that experts are touting Wii Fit as a potential exercise revolution.

A cross between a video game and personal trainer, Wii Fit features over 40 activities--from yoga to aerobics to strength training--that are performed on the Wii Balance Board. The Balance Board senses your movements and helps you maintain form while constantly tracking your progress. Aerobic activities like running to hula-hooping (my abs have been sore for a week thanks to daily hula challenges with my boys) burn calories and get your heart pumping while strength-training and balance games focus on muscle tone and posture.

Wii

The Balance Board is also a high-tech weight scale -- it keeps track of every user's weight and BMI and even calculates "Fitness Age," which is determined by BMI and the ability to perform some basic exercises. When I began using the system about a week ago, I started off at a pathetic Fitness Age of 42 - seven years older than I am. After just a week, I've whittled down to 39...plus my BMI has dropped two points so far. Similar to my addiction to Nintendo's Brain Age game for the DS, I'm motivated to get my Fitness Age down, so I'll be hopping on the Balance Board daily!

Wii Fit - $89 at Best Buy, Target and Amazon.com. More info at Nintendo.com.
