Is Hillary Clinton a Step Forward or Backward for Women?
What does Hillary Clinton’s race for presidency communicate to our daughters and sons about the place of women in the world today? New York Times’ writer Peggy Orenstein wonders if the New York senator serves as an example as how far we’ve come as women or how far we have to go, especially when you consider the misogynistic jabs – t-shirts that read, “Life’s a Bitch, Don’t Vote for One” – the public has taken at her.
What do you think Hillary represents to our children?

Initially I had a hard time decifering which candidate I would support. I loved the fact that Hillary is a woman, and it would have definitely been a step forward for us if she had gotten the nomination HONESTLY. However watching her campaign and the dirty politics she is playing out of desperation I do not regret my decision. I not for voting for someone just because they are woman or man, black or white, I’m about the person. I believe as this campaign has gone on, Hillary has shown that she’s just as low down as the male politicians and that in itself is a step back for us as women.

I really don’t get why this writer sees this as worthy of mentioning. Hillary is female, so when detractors or comediens want to take a jab at her, they use female stereotypes to do it. If Hillary were a male, then they would use male stereotypes. It’s just how it is. Many women seem to be especially sensitive to these stereotypes when they are trying to get into a “boys club.” If you ask me, this is a time to not be sensitive to it. There is a “B” word for men too, and I see it used a fair amount, in addition to terms like chauvinist, the “D” word, and others. I think that attention like this detracts from Hillary’s campaign. given that the NY Times is so clearly in Obama’s court, I guess it’s appropriate.
