UK Report: Motherhood Affects Woman’s Pay

new momA study done by the UK's Trade Union Congress (TUC), an organization representing over seven million employees, found that having children has a direct impact on women's salaries--resulting in them being paid up to 20% less than their male counterparts.

"Women are paying an unacceptable penalty simply for having children," TUC leader Brendan Barber said. "We all expect our wages to increase as our careers progress. But women's wages start to stagnate as early as their 30s."

Do you think we have a similar "penalty" for women who return to work after motherhood in the US?

Absolutely! Here is why;
1.  I was laid-off in my 2nd trimester showing of course…
2.  Before I had attempted having children I usually have had 2 offers after the 10th interview. Now up to my 18th in-person interview now 8 months pregnant am starting to hear the same type of thing, either I am not a fit or the position or the position gets downgraded in my interview-my favorite.
3.  Now that unemployment is running out, and we have lost over half of our income and stuck in a house that won’t sell in this market I’m starting to think about work by the hour as in data entry or job sharing? What do employers think about this request in their job databases?
Can anyone else tell me why my once in high demand skill set is now completely market less overnight?
Why is a college graduate with a B.S. degree, 8 years industry experience, once on the executive career track now considering data entry work?
I knew there were going to be trade-offs- in starting a family but this is extreme.
