Yesterday's news about mom of 3 Tatum O'Neal's arrest for buying crack cocaine got us thinking about parents dealing with addiction and those who have spouses with addiction issues.

We found this interesting article on MomLogic.com about having to make the choice between being there for a spouse with demons and doing the best for your kids.

How Safe Are Vaccines?

This week's Time Magazine cover story delves deep into the question that has crossed every parent's mind: How safe are vaccines?

Spurred by claims that vaccinations can be linked to autism, increasing numbers of parents are raising questions about whether vaccines are actually harmful to children. When the immune system of a baby or young child is just coming online, is it such a good idea to challenge it with antigens to so many bugs? Have the safety, efficacy and side effects of this flood of inoculations really been worked through? Just last month the U.S. government, which has always stood by the safety of vaccines, acknowledged that a 9-year-old Georgia girl with a preexisting cellular disease had been made worse by inoculations she had received as an infant, which "significantly aggravated" the condition, resulting in a brain disorder with autism-like symptoms. So, should we vaccinate our kids, or not?

Couple Arrested for Putting Baby Up For Sale on Craigslist

On the heels of a German couple arrested for listing their 7-month old baby for auction on eBay, a Vancouver couple may be charged for week-old baby up for sale on Craigslist.

Asking for $10,000, the ad read: "A new baby girl, seven days old, healthy and very cute. Can't afford and unexpected. Looking for a good home. Please call ASAP."

When tracked down by authorities, the parents claimed the whole thing was a joke, however the baby was removed and placed in protective custody.
 

Autistic kindergartner kicked out of class in “Survivor-style” vote

A Port St. Lucie, Fla. kindergarten student was "voted out" of class by fellow students after his teacher punished him for his behavior. 5-year old Alex Barton, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, was kicked out of class last week by his teacher who then allowed the other students to vote on whether he should be allowed back in.

Each student was also allowed to say what he or she did not like about Alex. By a 14-to-2 margin, the students voted Alex out of class, according to The South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“She said this was her way of correcting his behavior," Alex's mom told the newspaper. “I asked him how that made him feel and he said, ‘I feel sad.’”

Hundreds of parents of autistic children are signing an online petition to get teacher, Wendy Portillo, fired permanently. Currently, she has been reassigned to a position outside of the classroom.
