Busy momA recent survey estimates that mothers have "only" about seven hours of personal time per week.

Conducted by Jooners.com, a scheduling and time management website for busy moms, the survey of over 200 moms also found that they spend 24.7 hours each week managing family responsibilities.

I don't know about you, but seven hours of personal time a week sounds great to us!

“Family-Friendly” Sex Shop?

By Modern Mom Staff

BabelandFox News featured a new sex shop that opened in Brooklyn, NY over the weekend that markets itself as "family-friendly." The bright, modern Babeland features "upbeat music, well-dressed saleswomen and infant changing tables" in the hipster Park Slope neighborhood next to a maternity clothing store.

Owner Claire Cavanah aims to make women feel empowered, not embarrassed, she says.

“Here we’re really trying to sort of greet everyone where they are sexually.” This means everything from a “Sexy Moms Series” for mothers looking to spice up their sex lives to plenty of products for those looking to experience some bonding — or bondage.

It's too early to tell if some of the open-minded Brooklyn residents would in time object to some of the more colorful of Cavanah's past clientele that may be traipsing through — like one man whose reported fetish was to come to her other store dressed as an infant wearing a cloth diaper, sucking on a pacifier and clutching a rattle.

Antibacterial Wipes Junkies: Study Shows They May Actually Spread, Not Kill, Germs

By Modern Mom Staff

WipesWe all know moms (perhaps you are one?) who are addicted to antibacterial products -- wipes, gels and sprays -- that they whip out at the slightest sign of dirt, boogers or public facilities. Well, bad news: a new study finds that they might spread, rather than kill, bacteria.

Researchers from Cardiff University in Wales used a variety of wipes to clean surfaces that had been severely contaminated with bacteria -- including the Methicillin-resistant type known as MRSA. The researchers found that natural antimicrobial wipes removed the most bacteria from surfaces but still didn't destroy them, while disinfectant wipes did the best job of destroying some...but not all...bacteria. However, both had some bacteria remaining on them and when they were reused, the wipes just transported the bacteria to another location.
