uhhh…My Beautiful Mommy?
Newsweek reports on "My Beautiful Mommy," a new
picture book about plastic surgery that aims to explain to children why mom is
getting a flatter tummy and a 'prettier' nose. It features a perky mother
explaining to her child why she's having cosmetic surgery (a nose job and tummy
tuck).
Apparently, it has a happy ending: Mommy winds up "even more" beautiful than before, and her daughter is thrilled. The book hits shelves just in time for Mother's Day.
Has plastic surgery become so mainstream and acceptable that it's inspiring children's books? Check this story out here and tell us what you think!

Kylie + Ellen Share Breast Cancer Misdiagnoses
Singer Kylie Minogue appeared on Ellen this week and shared that doctors initially misdiagnosed her breast cancer.
“Listen, this is an opportunity for me to say something that I have not said before,” Minogue said. “I was misdiagnosed initially. So, my message to all of you and everyone at home is: because someone is in a white coat and using medical instruments, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are right."
The singer shared that it was when she went in for a second opinion that doctors discovered that she did indeed have breast cancer.
Ellen also shared that she once had mammogram that doctors could not detect any abnormalities with, but she then found a lump just a "few weeks later" and had it removed.
Have you ever dealt with medical errors or a misdiagnosis?

Scientists create artificial sperm

Or, it could be seen as a step towards making males totally redundant, so women can conceive without a man at all.
What do you think about eliminating men from the baby-making equation?

Can Sips at Home Prevent Binges?
New York Times writer Eric Asimov wonders if allowing teenagers and older children to try an occasional sip of wine at home will make alcohol less of a taboo, and help kids develop a healthy relationship with drinking. He speaks to other parents who believe that doing so only introduces
them to alcohol sooner.
What do you think? Check out his wine-and-kids odyssey here.
