Family Destination: Los Angeles, CA

By Lolita Carrico

Well-known as a family-friendly destination, Los Angeles offers tons of options everyone

HOW TO GET AROUND

Your best bet for transportation in Los Angeles is to rent a car -- the public transportation system is virtually non-existant and taxis across the sprawling city will quickly add up.

WHERE TO STAY

Located across the street from Boston's Museum of Science, Hotel Marlowe is nestled between historic Boston and Cambridge. It's a perfect spot for exploring Harvard Square, Beacon Hill and the Charles River.

The hotel offers several family-friendly packages such as Sailing Into Summer, which provides free passes to community boating on the river where the whole family can take sailing lessons; or the Kid's Discovery package which provides VIP passes to the Museum of Science.

And, Hotel Marlowe is pet-friendly so Rover is more than welcomed with his own bed, complimentary dog collar walking service, and plenty of treats.

The Westin Copley Place is located in the heart of Boston's Back Bay and within walking distance of the Newbury Street, Copley Place, Prudential Center, Boston Common and Faneuil Hall.

The Westin Kids Club program offers kids coloring books, bath toys and a sports bottle or sippy cup upon check-in good for complimentary beverages at mealtime. A safety kit containing bandages, electrical outlet covers, identification bracelets and a list of local emergency numbers is available for parents.

The hotel also has jogging strollers, high chairs and cribs for guest use and parents can order their children's meals ahead of time at the hotel restaurant so food is ready when they arrive.

WHAT TO DO

The New England Aquarium offers more than 70 exhibits, a "Thinking Gallery" with computer games and videos and a 1000-seat IMAX theater. The Aquarium also offers whale-watching excursions from April to October.

In the heart of the city, Faneuil Hall / Quincy Market is the perfect stop for a bite and shopping. Most days, the marketplace is home to a variety of street performers including jugglers, clowns, magicians, mimes and musicians.

The Boston Children's Museumoffers 4 floors for fun, learning and exploration. Kids can stage a TV show, make giant bubbles, and more.

The famous Swan Boats in downtown Boston's Public Garden are always a hit with kids. The Boats sail on a lagoon in the 24-acre Public Garden, America's first public botanical garden. Across the way is the Boston Common, America's oldest public park.

No matter what time of year you visit, you'll find plenty of family fun and activities to enjoy in Beantown.
