Dr Tanya - Our Resident Pediatrician

Question:

I have a 2 1/2 year old who won't eat anything but chicken nuggets, blueberries, pancakes, strawberries, cheese crackers, and occassionally she will eat yogurt or a piece of cheese. She gags at the sight of any other food and she will run out of the room at the very thought of her having to taste or smell it. My husband and I are frustrated and concerned by her behavior. We thought it was a phase but it has been like this since last March!

I have honestly tried to put healthy food in front of her and she will just sit there or push it away from her and won't eat.  I have tried pasta, potatoes, vegetables, turkey, hotdogs, pizza, etc. She won't even eat macaroni and cheese! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. - Deborah

Question: My 11 1/2 month old son is so sensitive to textures that he is just now beginning to attempt eating the #3 baby foods and some table food such as Cheerios. He often gags and sometimes actually throws up after a solid food. His pediatrician says he's fine, just a late bloomer in this area. All other developmental milestones have been met. Have you had experience with children of this age still not embracing table food? Do you think I should be doing anything more? Thanks! - Jenifer V.

Question:

Hello, I am a mom of 6.5 yr old triplet girls...yes, we were & are very blessed, each day being very new & different! One of my girls' just vomited and had a 24-hour stomach virus for the first time a week ago. She of course did not like that at all, but we did manage to recover quickly. Ever since then, she is very emotional, crying, fearful of any little "twinge" in her tummy, not wanting to eat much. Now it has been 2 weeks and every once in a while she gets tearful and complains of a sore or pain around her belly button area. Please let me know what you think, I appreciate it.

Question: My 6 year old son was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago. We found out when we asked our doctor about his frequent urination. He has not learned to get up at night to go yet, and when I make attempts to wake him up in the middle of the night to try and get him into the habit, my husband tells me not to because of the diabetes. Meanwhile, he is going into second grade and still wears pull-ups at night. Should I push the issue more, or will he naturally begin to wake up and go on his own? - Mamaham03

Question: I noticed my 4-month-old son developed a flat area on the right side of his head. My doctor recommended lying him with his head facing the other direction. I try, but he still turns his head to the right regardless of the door, windows or toys. What else can I do to help him? - Melanie from Laval, Quebec
